Lost on how to upload previous site

Recommended Posts

A guy had his presta shop (non live- non cloud based) set up at his shop and he was tinkering on it adding items) He got a usb drive with the site saved on it.

He is transferring from one hosting provider to another.

How can I upload his saved site to a new site/account?

first copy the usb to your hardrive

fast: zip the files to your hardrive,  then if hosting control supports it, upload the zip  file to domain, and the unzip it

slow: use ftp program like filezila, copy the usb files to folder onto your hard drive, then using ftp program upload to domain.

you will of course need to create a db for the shop from you hosting control panel.  this information will then need to be placed in config/settings.inc.php

happy day, el

Forgive me but I am not a computer wiz. I kinda play it by ear.

Did the upload and unzipped but it said I needed to download the presta shop..

Do I need to install presta shop in the right folder BEFORE I upload the zip files? and if so What folder do I put it in?

What is database dump? I know how to create a database, and username but not sure about the database dump

Thank you for your help

if you want to copy your prestashop to another host this means that you have:

- export prestashop database from current host

- import prestashop database to target host

- copy filesystem of your prestashop to new host

- configure permissions to directories

- change details about database in config/settings.inc.php (database host, database name, database user, password)

you dont have to "install" prestashop again on new host

this guy was useing hostmysite. Finding anything in that place is a PITA.

I managed to use prestashop to backup database. and FTP to copy all files over.

Files are over... website is not coming up. I figure this is because of the database.

I go to previous hosting site and look under database ... no database.

The guy had to open something like Imuss, Imap (orange icon with a white space invader dude)  before he could log on to his site...Does that mean the database is on his computer?
