rseigel Posted January 5, 2013 Share Posted January 5, 2013 At what point are you guys going STOP advertising in MY admin? First Stripe and now Skril. Are we going to have 20 ads there someday? Does anyone know if there's a way to turn it off. It's annoying and downright greedy of PS to think they can do whatever they want with MY site. Yes I know it's free. I don't care. It's open source and you've chosen to give it away. Don't clog MY site up with crap! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Dh42 Posted January 6, 2013 Share Posted January 6, 2013 They give you software for free, and you get mad because it is ad supported? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Bill Dalton Posted January 6, 2013 Share Posted January 6, 2013 (edited) The great thing about opensource is if you don't like something you can change it. PS 1.5.3.1 prestashop\admin\themes\default\template\controllers\home\content.tpl Change lines 112 - 114

Change To;
Don't sweat the small stuff ;-)
Edited January 6, 2013 by Bill Dalton (see edit history) 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
rseigel Posted January 6, 2013 Author Share Posted January 6, 2013 It's NOT ad supported. It's open source. There's a HUGE difference. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Dh42 Posted January 6, 2013 Share Posted January 6, 2013 Tell that to the people at the different open office / apache flavors. I think Bill provided a good answer though. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

That's what I was looking for - a real answer instead of a snarky remark from a "moderator". Debate over. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Dh42 Posted January 6, 2013 Share Posted January 6, 2013 Its not a snarky response, its a fact of how things work. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

How about a debilitating disease that I personally have. How about a mother that's in early stages of Alzheimers? Shall I go on? Don't ASSume anything and say stupid crap like that. You have no idea what people go through on a daily basis when you don't know them. It's easy when you can hide behind a keyboard. Have a day..... Burhan BVK Posted January 7, 2013 Share Posted January 7, 2013 Maybe Prestashop should start advertising itself as "adware" instead of "free". It already steals your email address without informing you. Just because you are giving away something free does not mean you can put anything you want in it. Dh42 Posted January 8, 2013 Share Posted January 8, 2013 You could always fork it. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
guest* Posted January 22, 2013 Share Posted January 22, 2013 You could always fork it. No Jesus, please don't give such ideas (although it is an allowed possibility)... I'm happy that I eliminated all Users using one of the German forks, into running to Prestashop official Forum, asking for support and reporting strange bugs not available on PS. Such forks also prevents the awareness and natural growth of the software on a specific Market by making competition to the Original. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Dh42 Posted January 22, 2013 Share Posted January 22, 2013 Good point. I just know for the software to become more stable it takes money, it just irritates me that people want something for free, then find something to complain about. True story, I had someone contact me a while back and wanted some work done on their custom shopping cart. I looked at the site and saw how it was laid out ( the directory structure from looking at the front end) I was pretty sure it was Prestashop so I took on the job. When I logged into the admin, who ever did it, did everything thing they could to take the Prestashop branding off and put their own branding. It was a real pain in the butt, but I ended up, upgrading to 1.4.9 so that I could fix all of the changes. I just feel like if people do things like this, don't ask for support. If it were not for money from partnerships, advertising, and things of the like, Prestashop would not move forward and would end up dying. Then I would have to learn another cart software and change my whole business model. This is just my rant... lol Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
guest* Posted January 23, 2013 Share Posted January 23, 2013 The problem of the German Forks is, that you aren't able to upgrade them. They simply override Presta Original and strip some tables in the database or do not fill them. You cannot upgrade, it crashes. On the German Forum I posted a tutorial on how to migrate their forks to PS original. Furthermore with some fixes specially for the German Market also as tutorial on the official forum, all users are now able to have a law conform PS software. So the discussion of "PS does not fulfill the law and the forks are better than PS original were stopped and I don't need to support (clones, forks or ghost PS) without knowing that before. The damage for the software was a really big one. I agree to you by saying the same: it's also irritating for me to having people complaining free things. Unfortunately this is a majority of users around the whole world. The word shame or modesty isn't a part of the vocabulary they know. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
