How to create drop down list of categories on the top horizontal menu?

As mentioned in the subject line, how to create a drop down list of categories in the top horizontal menu?

 

Unable to find any threads on this topic for Prestashop 1.6.

 

Please help.

just add category that contains subcategories - it (dropdown) will be created automatically.

The default menu shows the sub-categories horizontally. I am looking for a dropdown list like the attached pic.

I added a category and moved the sub-categories under it to make them 3rd level sub-categories. Tweaking the css seemed too risky at this stage.

 

There is a large amount of empty space in the horizontal menu, both after the 3rd level subcategories and below them. Is there a way to reduce this white space.
