Prestashop Overloading Server??

Recommended Posts

Hi

Need some expert advice on an issue that has been brought to my attention by the hosting company where our shop is running. They say that our website uses up to 70% of their server's cpu and that the problem must be PS.

We are currently on Version 1.0.0.8 - 0.126s and our daily hits are on average 26k, peaking at times up to 30k. Could this be the problem (the number of daily hits)?

Is there anyway of testing to see if the problem is really our site that's overloading their server?

Thanks in advance.

You shall not forget that PrestaShop is not a simple blog or a static website, but a complete e-commerce project. So even if it's faster than some of its competitors, it's still a huge project which need a lot of resources.
26/30k is not huge but great enough too use an average web server.
It also depends if your hits are spread the whole day or if there's a big peek an hour a day.

I spoke with the hosting company, we're not going to upload/update products tomorrow so that they can keep an eye on the resources the site is using.

We do work on the site on a regular basis (daily), could the uploading of new products be the cause of this?

Is there anyway of optimizing the system, cache wise maybe?

Thanks for the input

Find a host that specializes in ecommerce, you'll be a lot happier especially if your store winds up very successful. Better to go with a good hosting company from the jump. My hosting company was optimized for the resource hog, Magento and when I decided to not go with that software and use Prestashop... it was pretty much smooth sailing.

For example: i received this email the other day:

ANNOUNCING THE MAGENTO SIPS
Magento

First, we'd like to let you know about our newest hosting service, the Magento SIP. "SIP" stands for Secure, Isolated Platform. Each SIP is a self-contained hosting environment that has been specifically optimized to run a third party application as securely and efficiently as possible. For our first SIP product, we chose the popular Magento ecommerce software from Varien.

As the only Magento Platinum level hosting partner, we've set up hundreds of Magento stores for our customers, and as you might expect we've learned a thing or two about how best to configure and secure this sophisticated and complex software. We've also learned that customers who choose Magento for their online stores also usually need several other features in their hosting plan, such as dedicated IP addresses, PCI compliance, etc.

So we've put together a range of Magento SIP plans that combine top of the line hardware, a highly-optimized Magento installation and many other features desired by ecommerce customers. We've spent the last few months perfecting and benchmarking our configurations, and are confident that these are the best Magento hosting plans available, anywhere. The SIP plans starts at under $25 a month for the SIP 100 plan which includes all the basics needed for a Magento-based ecommerce store, up to the SIP 400 plan which is essentially an optimized Magento dedicated server. We can even offer Magento based load-balanced server clusters, something which many of our competitors didn't even think was possible!

Once Prestashop starts to take off... it will be great to hosting plans like this for this software...

Thanks for the tip.

We've been using our current host for about 3 years now for several different domains.
The funny thing is that we're actually quite happy with their services. Sites load fast and our host does provide an excellent customer service.
It's the host that's a bit worried about the resources our once shop is using.

Tomorrow we're not going to be doing anything on the site so that our host can keep an eye on it.

Lets see what they have to say..

Sorry for the late reply.

I called our host yesterday, they said that there was definitely an improvement.
So somehow it seems as if when we're working on the shop (uploading new product, updating etc..), the resources go sky high.

Has anyone else come across this problem?
