is it safe to update live site to 1.7.4.2

before upgrading you should

build a copy of your production shop, in a  subdomain for example.  Here you can test autoupgrade and make an informed  decision on how to  proceed.

also you will want to list your 'must have' 3rd  party modules in your 1.6 shop and see if avail in 1.7.  1.6 modules and themes are not compatible with 1.7 so you have some homework to do also.

Dear xpindia,

We upgraded from Prestashop 1.7.4.2. We first wanted to upgrade to 1.7.3.x what wasn't possible. The 1-click upgrade addon has been updated recently after sever hiccups. It seems to work very will now. We had no problems during the upgrade but we have no experience with 1.6x versions.

Please bear in mind to swith back (if necessary) to the standard theme. But what even more importantly, please assign enough processor time to your server. this seems to be the root cause of many failed upgrade tires.

I agree with El Patron that not all 1.6 modules are available on Prestashop 1.7x. Also, some of the so called read for 1.7x addons are not working (properly) at all. You must test it out in advance on their demo versions. We experienced that if they provide you with promises only that it'll work , it won't work for sure. You really must see it on 1.7x. If they have no demo version, we recommend not to buy it or to clarify the return process up front. There's new and very good addons available for 1.7 but as 1.7.4.2 runs on PHP 7.1 or even better on 7.2 you must be sure what you're buying. Older addons seem to tend to be not fully ready for 1.7. and especially 1.7.4.2.

Kind regards
