Correct Owner and Rights for files and folders

Hello,

 

After moving to a new server I have some problems with updates of modules, updating products etc. I understand taht is due to wrong Owner and Rights for files and folders. I found an information that, folders should have 755 and files 644. But I also have some folders/files owned by www-data and other by the my FTPUser. 

I think that due to the automatic move to the new server (o maybe already on the old server) the owner for some folders are not right.

My question: Is there a way to know, which folder/files should be owned by which user.

This is a common problem and good hosting can "solve" it for you. I left my old hosting because of this and have no problem now.
