Correct Method To Change A Module...

Hi guys,

 

I have a very basic question regarding changing a module in Prestashop (1.6.0.9).

 

I am not using the default theme. I am using a custom theme that I purchased from Templatemonster and it is located in the following folder:

 

/themes/theme1005

 

I also have the core Prestashop files and folders installed in the Root:

 

WWW

 

For example, if I want to change one of the TPL files, eg: category-tree-branch-top.tpl, in the "blockcategories" module, do I change the category-tree-branch-top.tpl file that is located in the WWW folder or the category-tree-branch-top.tpl that is located in the file located in the /themes/theme1005/modules/blockcategories folder???

Change the one in your theme....

So am I correct in that the module in the theme is looked at before the one in the WWW folder?

you should not have any template files in the root (WWW) of your store.

 

A template file for a module would either be within the modules folder itself

/modules/blockcategories/category-tree-branch.tpl

 

Or embedded within the theme

\themes\default-bootstrap\modules\blockcategories\category-tree-branch.tpl

 

And yes, if located within the themes folder, it will overrides the core module file

Sorry for the confusion, there are no template files in the WWW (Root) folder.

I think what I am referring to as the "Core files" are the files and folders that Prestashop creates when it is installed.

 

I am assuming that these are all in the root (WWW) folder?

These Core files exist in many folders.  I would suggest you download the original zip package for your version of Prestashop, and extract the zip on your desktop temporarily so you can see
