Is it possible to use email manually without setting in presta shop?

Recommended Posts

I am fedup with my gmail cannot work when setting up in the administration page. I am not sure where to configure it correctly i have tried whatever combination of setting including TLS/SSL port 465, 25, 587 but nothing works for the smtp setting.

So i have decided to use manual email...if possible but i am wondering where will the order notification goes to when someone is purchasing a product on my site and how can the prestashop send email notification to them when orders are updated or shipped?

Please advise i am going to use manual email since there is no free email SMTP service available.

Unfortunately Prestashop uses a very old Mail library called SwiftMailer, and that software does not support the modern encryption technology that gmail and many other SMTP servers require (STARTTLS).

You will need to upgrade that SwiftMailer library, and then your core Prestashop Mail class in order to use gmail SMTP.

I do sell a modification on my website that does this for you.  You can search the forums here as well, as this is a heavily discussed topic

How much is that cost and how it works -- sorry to say i don't want to wander around the forum its too frustrating finding the answers of everything...and there are no structured answers from every single thread. So i am just going to use this thread to solve it for my own prestashop.

gmail connection works well in prestashop, personally i use it in my demo store with modules.

server name: smtp.googlemail.com

port: 465

username: [email protected]

Authentication method: normal password

Connection security: SSL/TLS

do you use 2 step verification in your gmail?

I tried your setting but still not working and it says

Error: Please check your configuration

Authentication failed using username '[email protected]' and password '**********'

I am not quite sure what you meant by 2 steps verification in my email? Where can i see this and fix it to make it work for my prestashop

By the way i got received an email from my gmail saying this "Sign-in attempt prevented"

Hi Meiji, Someone just tried to sign in to your Google Account myemail@gmail.com from an app that doesn't meet modern security standards.   Details:

United States* We strongly recommend that you use a secure app, like Gmail, to access your account. All apps made by Google meet these security standards. Using a less secure app, on the other hand, could leave your account vulnerable. Learn more.

Google stopped this sign-in attempt, but you should review your recently used devices:

"modern security standards" being the operative sentence here.  So you have likely made some change to your account to allow SMTP connection to work without using STARTTLS.  This means your SMTP username and password are not being sent securely to gmails SMTP server upon connection.
