[SOLVED] V1.6 Image Slider Homepage Not Displaying

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have "Elation Liquid Responsive Design Theme" that will not display the "Image Slider Homepage (V1.3)".

Even though the theme is still for sale on Prestashop, there is every chance that the theme designer has died or something as his site has been down for weeks, he no longer answers emails, and there have been no updates.

To the problem. The code view shows the javascript file is there:

<script type="text/javascript" src="/js/jquery/plugins/bxslider/jquery.bxslider.js"></script>

The variables are there:

var homeslider_loop=1;
var homeslider_width=535;
var homeslider_speed=4500;
var homeslider_pause=4000;

There is a DOM space provided for the slider on the page. www.advantagelife.net

But there is no "div" or place holder for the slider.

When I first updated the slider images where there all visible above each other. Then I reset the module and the images went but there where some place holders for them. Then I updated the module to V1.3 and now there isn't even a placeholder just the javascript.

I take it that I need to make modifications to the Theme but would like advice on what to do/add.

Thanks

Hi Vekia,

Thanks for your assistance.

I'm not sure how to do what you suggested above.

So in the mean time, I copied the new themes/default-bootstrap/modules/homslider to my theme (Made no difference)

I checked the Module in Positions and found it in the following:

  1. actionShopDataDuplication (not sure what this is for)

  2. displayHeader

  3. displayTopColumn  (seemed wrong)

I changed the position hook via the database from "displayTopColumn" to "DisplyHome" and now the "static" slider images are displaying all at once with no movement on the home page as they did when I first upgraded Prestashop to 1.6 but not the HomeSlider module.

So now it is hooked to:

  1. actionShopDataDuplication

  2. displayHeader

  3. displayHome

Looking at the published code there is now no links to the JS files BUT now we have the HTML code (opposite to before):

<!-- Module HomeSlider -->
<div id="homepage-slider">
<ul id="homeslider">
<li class="homeslider-container">
<a href="/body-skin-care-products/1-advantagelife-beefirm-bee-venom-face-mask-cream.html" title="AdvantageLife®">
<img src="http://www.advantagelife.net/modules/homeslider/images/90c989d04563b9492703883c886a33d2.jpg" width="609" height="306" alt="AdvantageLife&reg;" />
</a>
<div class="homeslider-description"><p>Welcome to AdvantageLife&reg;, the place for quality health and personal care products.</p></div>
</li>
<li class="homeslider-container">
<a href="/body-skin-care-products/1-advantagelife-beefirm-bee-venom-face-mask-cream.html" title="BeeFirm®">
<img src="http://www.advantagelife.net/modules/homeslider/images/7a16e30bf68ddfde521f8972c1a6e8cf.png" width="535" height="300" alt="BeeFirm&reg;" />
</a>
<div class="homeslider-description"><p>The premium quality, high value BeeFirm&reg; Bee Venom Mask is only available to the world here.</p></div>
</li>
<li class="homeslider-container">
<a href="/content/4-about-us" title="About-Us">
<img src="http://www.advantagelife.net/modules/homeslider/images/d8e20cb910552755d795d57c66bd1140.jpg" width="462" height="306" alt="About-Us" />
</a>
<div class="homeslider-description"><p>Who is AdvantageLife&reg;. Learn all about us here.</p></div>
</li>
</ul>
</div>
<!-- /Module HomeSlider -->

I think if we can somehow get the JS and maybe CSS (if needed)  then it may work.

Any ideas from here?

Thanks

In setting up the home page image slider for my theme meant changing the size of the images. Would this be part of the issue because I read that some people broke there home page image slider by changing the image sizes at the following link:

http://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/317424-default-slider-doesnt-change/

If this is in dead the case, then we will have to wait for a bug fix.

Update.

I decided to buy a different slider to try then all of a sudden, the Theme developers contacted me and their site is back up. The developers are now working on getting the theme compatible with Prestashop 1.6 so hopefully the slider issue will be solved.

Thanks for your assistance.

Hi axexander_johnson,

I have had a few answers from the developer over time. There are a few issues with this theme in regards to Prestashop 1.6.

They should have had it fixed some time ago so either something is causing them a lot of trouble, or they are spending very little time on it and it is of very low priority for them. For a while there even their own site was down.

This is a good theme so I am hanging on for the time being hoping that they will come good. This maybe a bad move.

Anyway, the only way I have been able to contact them is via the Prestashop addons contact the developer link:

https://addons.prestashop.com/en/write-to-developper?id_product=5559

You may have to wait sometime for a reply but please try contacting them and if you know anyone else that uses the theme, get them to contact them as well.

I do not know if Prestashop management has standards in regards to the responsiveness of the addon sellers because this case is now an issue.

Hi axexander_johnson,

I have an update. The following is from the Theme developers:

"Hello, the theme needs to be work from the beginning and we can only reuse the design. So it is not an quick task.
Even if we are able to do the theme for PS 1.6 it will need to be purchased again per Prestashop requirements.

So as soon as we complete the theme you will let all the customers know its available.

Thank you for your understanding."

Hi,

I could not wait any longer so I purchased another responsive theme that seems to be Ok and sort of along the lines of this theme.

With the new theme I changed the background colour via a very handy "add CSS block" included with the theme. It also has a "add javascript block".

------------

#center_column, .products-grid, .product-4, .grid-9-product-3, .sdsblog-box-content, #twitter, #facebook{background-color: #FBFBFB;}
.sdsblog-box-content{padding: 15px;}
#twitter{padding-left: 5px;}

-------------

Most of the colour changes can be made via a colour editor tap that the theme has.

I have not finished my site yet but you can get an idea of the style/look achieved with this other theme at www.advantagelife.net

This theme was $60 and I purchased it from http://themeforest.net/item/dilecta-responsive-prestashop-theme/4225676

Also I did get assistance from this theme's support team and they were very fast to assist.

I hope that this helps get someone out of trouble. I have no connection with the developer other than being a satisfied customer.
