Layered Navigation Block doesn't show

I've got the Layered Navigation block installed and (I think) configured, when I do the Live Edit to check it's position it shows as a block with title only (no content) and it is completely absent from the front office.  I tried moving everything else from the left column to the right, so it would have the left to itself, and on refresh, the column is empty and everything else slides to the left to take up the space.

 

Making this module work is key to my auto parts search, unless I discover another way, so I need it to work.  I've watched Nemo's video on the subject, and as far as I can tell, I'm OK...

 

One weird observation:  In part of the setup a lightbox opens to display the category structure, and all it shows is "home", and I can't expand it to show the 19 categories I have.

If there's anyone who can help with this, I need your help.  So far, the utility this module provides is the only reasonable solution for my needs (auto parts), but I can't seem to make it do anything.

It's a tiny bug introduced with 1.5.5.0. I haven't had any problems before I upgraded and haven't notice it prior this day since I had no need to edit any filters. Take a look at this thread for additional information:
