karlb00
Hi All, I'm a bit of a newb to Prestashop so forgive me if i'm wrong but even as a new user I cant believe for a moment that although Prestashop does a fantastic job of providing stats, It doesn't seem to have the ability to provide figures for the tax man and your accountant. This to me seems childishly stupid. Is it that everyone using Prestashop avoids the Tax man or maybe they enjoy spending hours running through every product they have to work out the difference between wholesale and sale price. I appreciate that you can spend a whopping £140 on the ' Advanced sales, tax, profit and profit margin reports' module but surely this is something everybody needs and report writing should be a basic, standard function of Prestashop or any shop for that matter. Perhaps I've missed something?
Dh42
I think most people export there orders into quickbooks from their payment gateway. I think that feature would be un-needed bloat to the software and is best left a 3rd party module.
karlb00
Seriously???? You don't think that a feature that every single user needs and uses on a daily basis is a good idea and think that its best left to a third party??? Neither I nor 10 or so others I've spoke to use quick books or anything similar to do their own bookwork and their payment gateways don't calculate profit just sales. Instead of what surely has to be a simple thing to add you're suggesting that I pay for a third party module such as the 'Advanced sales, tax, profit and profit margin reports' at £137.53 then add a years upgrade to it coming in at £200 in total then purchase quickbooks at an additional cost + setup time. As you may have guessed, I couldn't disagree more. Thanks for at least taking the time to reply though.
Dh42
I mean, you could always create your own module to do it. It shouldn't be too hard. I have around 50 clients running Prestashop and never had one ask for anything like this. IMO it is e-commerce software not book keeping software. No matter what you enter it is not going to an accurate profit margin. To do so it would have to account for employee pay, health insurance, packaging costs, electricity, mortgage or rent payments, gateway fees, and whole host of other things. One thing people do not realize is when you start adding things like this to the base Prestashop package, the server requirements increase as well. I would prefer to have something lite and powerful on the selling end, not an all around solution to managing my life. They do make packages that have all of these features, netsuite is a good example. It has a high starting cost of 25k to 50k though.
karlb00
Thanks DH42, I like your thinking but have to agree, I think overall company profit would be a bit extreme! All I want is a way of expressing profit on my Prestashop sales. I have 100's of products from dozens of suppliers, all of which have different profit margins dependant on what my competitors are selling the product at. As it stands the only way I have of working out my sales profit is to access each and every product! As you can imagine, it's never going to happen. Thanks.
