Hello everyone...How are you doing?

OK!... I have a client who wants me to

transfer his prestashop (1.49 "I think, I can check") from

a normal server to a dedicated server on another web hosting site.

This is a prestashop loaded with products, records, the full monty-O)

Now I am not qualified to undertake this transfer I have never done this before,

so I am looking to hire a presta shop techie who has done this before, is experienced in this type of operation.

Couple of questions.

1: Can 1.49 be upgraded to current stable version?

2: Is upgrading risky?

Interested to hear feedback...All the best...Robert

PS...Any offers PM me with the price.

don't move to new sever and upgrade at same time

if you don't know how to move the site...then upgrading would also be outside of your comfort level....as one should know how to create a test system to 'try' upgrade scenarios....

there are some pretty good techs here....just make sure they present a plan, and you can always post their plan for community review

Moving the site is simple enough for a developer, but one thing I would highly suggest is not to move the site and domain name at the same time. Once the site is moved I would give it a day or so to verify that everything works before making the transfer of the domain name. It will be a little bit more work on their part, they will have to re sync the database, but its better than blowing up on the launch pad. Prestashop's ajax functions rely pretty heavily on mb string and some servers do not have it enabled correctly by default so that is one major thing I would test before moving the domain.

As for the upgrade, I would suggest like above. Move the site, make sure everything is working. Then make a development version of the site on the same server. Then start the upgrade. Going from 1.4.9 to 1.5.4 you are more than likely going to have layout / theme issues that will need to be corrected.
