Hello Everyone

Im TOTALLY new to website design. I have recently purchased a template from a template design company. I paid to have the website uploaded to my server. I would now like to make some changes to the wording & change some of the footer text.

I have tried to upload the site to my dreamweaver CS6. However im not sure i have done this correctly. I went to "new site" my website files are stored in a folder on my desktop (C:\Users\Tim's comp\Desktop\Website Files\siam wholesale jewellery\

Ive come to the part where i add my ftp settings..what to i put in the server name & the Roor directory?

Also i tried to change the footer text, can anyone help??? Many thanks

I never used Dreamweaver so I don't really know, but if server name means Host than you should put your domain (www.whatever.com) and usually your root folder in a shared hosting account is: public_html

Again I am not sure because I never used Dreamweaver.

P.S: If you lack of basic skills I suggest you find someone to setup everything for you and you deal with uploading products to Back Office.

Good Luck

To run the full site you would need to set up something like WAMP

Here is a link that gives some instructions:

http://www.extendstudio.com/blog/2010/03/how-to-make-a-testing-server-work/

For the changes you are talking about, you will be dealing mostly with the css files and .tpl files.

I suggest making a duplicate backup of any file you change in case changes make things go screwy.

I use Wamp, once you have installed it let us know and we will guide you through the process.

Basically you need to

1) install Wamp.

2) Create a new folder in "www" located within the Wamp directory.

3)Copy your PrestaShop folders in the new directory you just created

4) create a database in myPHPadmin (integrated with wamp)

5) go to localhost/(whatever you named the folder in the directory) and install.

Basic instructions but let us know when you are ready

Thanks!

Hello tmac, yes you can name it whatever you like.

You can download PrestaShop from http://www.prestashop.com/en/download

When you download and extract it you will find one folder named "prestashop" inside that folder are a bunch of other folders and files (starting with the folder admin)

you copy all of those files within the root folder of "prestashop" into the folder you created within the "www" folder in wamp.

Hello Benjamin..do you mean i have to download prestashop again..or can i copy the files from my website. When i paid the company to upload my site to the server, they sent me an email with some info..saying i had to change the name of the admin file..is this the file your talking about? ive just a had look & the admin file is the(name changed to what i called it) then underneath, there are some other folders..such as..cache, cgi-bin, classes, config..etc etc...are all these the folders & files that need to be copied & pasted in the new www folder?

Hi tmac,

A quick reply on reply #27. Instead of changing the jewellery text in the file itself, you can do it neatly in the back office, under translations. (Not sure what menu/tab this is in 1.4.x, but try tools, or preferences, and look for translations.)

Most texts in front and even back office, of modules, mail text and errors can be translated here. Even if you want just other English words or sentences instead of the original ones, just change the translation for English (choose the USA flag for this).

Play with it a little, and you will see that this is a great feature of PS.

My 2 cents,

Pascal
