daverr
Hi there, I'm currently working on my site and want to disable the home page so no-one can see it whilst it's being developed. I know you can enable/disable the storefront in Preferences, but i need to be able to see the site myself but want to stop the public from seeing it. I've tried adding an index.html and index.htm file to the root directory, thinking that it would stop others seeing the site whilst allowing me to go to www.sitename.com/index.php to see the site. Doesn't work though - you see the index.html file, but when you go to the index.php page it automatically forwards you to www.sitename.com and displays the html page again. Any help much appreciated!! Dave Edited June 26, 2012 by daverr (see edit history)
Mike Kranzler
Hi Dave, You're going in the right direction, you just missed one final step . In your Back Office, under Preferences, you'll see an option just below "Enable Shop" that says "Maintenance IP." Just click the button that says "Add my IP address" and then click save at the bottom, and you will still be able to see your site even when it's disabled to everyone else. I hope this helps. -Mike
tdr170
Add your IP address in the space provided right below where you enable or disable the shop. (just click add my IP address)
El Patron
Add your IP address in the space provided right below where you enable or disable the shop. (just click add my IP address) actually you need to scroll down and click save...I've made that mistake (over and over) of clicking add my IP...and it didn't do it
daverr
Thanks all for the fast responses! Unfortunately I'm on a shared server, so although I can add the IP address it won't let me load the page

Mike Kranzler
Hi daverr, Please check your IP here, and then try adding that value manually and let me know if that works any better for you. -Mike
daverr
Hi Mike, that comes up with the IP that prestashop automatically picked up, doesn't seem to want to work
Mike Kranzler
And what exactly do you see on your Front Office after you save those settings? -Mike

daverr
Hi all, thanks for your help, now solved, silly user error (as is usually the case!) (but I had clicked Save ) . I thought that to get to the site by the IP address that you input the site's IP address in preferences, not your own, and then you'd get to the site by entering the site's IP address in the browser, or in other words it stopped the domain name from resolving. I always find it useful in forum posts if the solution is posted in case anyone else has had the same problem, so even though it's obvious to me now (and so simple!), to view the home page yourself whilst preventing others seeing it: 1) In the preferences tab, disable the shop 2) Click the Add my IP address button which will add your computers IP address 3) Scroll down and click Save You can now view your site, but everyone else gets the maintenance page. If you're working from multiple machines/locations, you need to add the ip address for each by following the above steps on each machine/location you user. Thanks all for your help! Mike Kranzler
That sounds oddly familiar, but I'm glad you were able to resolve this! Happy selling! -Mike
