Phantom shopping carts

Does anyone else get phantom shopping carts?

We get cards by visitors where they were obviously checking things out, but then deciding not to buy. But at least once per day we get a cart with a number of so different items in that it is clear it is not a real interest.

Can search engine bots, facebook / twitter bots etc actually add to the shopping carts? Or are these from potential hackers? Or just competitors having a look around?

Any ideas?

Hi there,

Same issue here.

Two times now I found a lot of phantom shopping carts.

I'm on PS 1.4.2.5

Further i noticed that:

It puts one item in a cart at a time

Items seems to be picked at random order, at least not by order of productnumber, alphabeth, price or category

it works very regularly, 15 seconds interval between carts

It continues untill all items in the shop have been put in a cart

If i look at the last cart's date and time and in my statistic i find one match:

Yahoo Slurp

Googlebot

Unknown robot (identified by 'bot/' or 'bot-')

MSNBot

Unknown robot (identified by 'crawl') <=== THIS ONE

Nutch

Yandex bot

Alexa (IA Archiver)

Unknown robot (identified by hit on 'robots.txt')

Unknown robot (identified by 'robot')

BaiDuSpider

SurveyBot

Python-urllib

Motor

maybe that rules out the other ones?

There does not seem to be more harm than an extreem number of carts, but I would like to see it solved though.

Something in robots.txt??

regards,

Pieter
