Plz note at the moment we have pics 600 x 600 dimensions but sizes r around 500kb Thnaks 500kb should be perfectly fine, but if the page takes too long to load, try reducing the file size and reuploading. It may take some trial and error to find the best combination for your page, but there shouldn't be any real issues with a 500kb file.
HandCraft
Thanks Mike.....but as a thumb rule any ideal size is there to upload on ecommerce kind websites? Coz many suggested me to reduce it to below 100kb but it is losing [of course] the quality n that's the concern.

Any time you reduce the file size of an image you risk losing image quality, especially when the file is small to begin with. You can try reducing the size via Photoshop or other software (just run a Google search for "reduce file size without losing image quality" or something similar), but again, 500kb shouldn't be too big at all. Is the file size causing you issues currently, or are you just trying to be proactive?
HandCraft
Thanks Mike.....Actually i had [have] uploaded 200kb images but of dimensions 768 x 1024 which made opening of thickbox slower. Many customers complained about it. New images are of 600 x 600 but of sizes 500kb each. So bit confused coz i really do not hv time to work over it again n again. Plz note, now we hv activated Jqzoom as well. What would you say now?
Matt Serralta
Thanks Mike.....Actually i had [have] uploaded 200kb images but of dimensions 768 x 1024 which made opening of thickbox slower. Many customers complained about it. New images are of 600 x 600 but of sizes 500kb each. So bit confused coz i really do not hv time to work over it again n again. Plz note, now we hv activated Jqzoom as well. What would you say now? Hi, I hope the week-end treated you well. :-). Size and image quality has always been a controversial issues on web-sites. Some store owners prefer to have better quality pictures, and for the image to load a little bit slower, while some shop owners are looking for faster loading time. It depends some on the products that you are selling. Somebody selling jewelry or fine items might need to have a higher resolution on their pictures to put forward the quality of their product. It is also known that internet shopper mainly purchase based on pictures, big pictures, high quality pictures equates to higher sales. This is not always true, for example if you sell MP3 or software, it usually does not really apply. To give you a good answer, I cannot give you a specific size. PrestaShop is optimized to re-size the image sizes when loading within a specific page ( category, home, product), and for JQZOOM, you will need to decide based on the quality that you are looking for. If the server allows it ( how much storage space is available to you), always upload the highest quality image that you can. Then you can visit Preferences / image and modify how the image is displayed / resolution under thickbox option. Don't forget to regenerate thumbnails ( below) thereafter. If you need more help, please let us know your website address so we can take a peek..... Thanks Matt and Mike :-)
HandCraft
Matt and Mike, Thanks for such a descriptive reply. Our web address is www.Handcraft.co.in which is working perfectly now. We did lot of research on image quality n site speed. Of course, we preferred site faster speed n somehow managed to maintain quality of images. Only one doubt is still there. When we generate thumbnails, the watermarks from all images disappears. How come is that? Any solution? Thnaks!!!
