Category shown as -- in back office

Hi, I got Prestashop installed and running smoothly a few days ago, this is my server information:

Prestashop Version: 1.4.0.17
Server information: Linux #1 SMP Thu Feb 24 12:15:18 EET 2011 x86_64
Server software Version: Apache/2.2.17
PHP Version: 5.2.17
MySQL Version: 5.1.53-community

Today when I tried to add new categories, they are all shown as -- in back office although these new categories are displayed correctly in front office. You can see it in this screenshot

Also, when I tried to add new products, in the category selection tree, these new categories (which are shown as -- in the back office) are not displayed. I dont know how to fix this, please help.

from symptom, it seems that you didn't input all languages for the multiple language fields like name, description.
in that case, if you switch to different language, the categories does not show.
make sure you have input all languages for multiple language fields

I have the same problem and it's not related to languages.
I only use english and all the configuration is done under english.

I can see the subcategoried in the BO but they don't show up in the front office.

I could use some ideas.....

using 1.4.17.

I solved my problem by enabling all the languages (even though I dont use them at all), it's strange but that works. You may want to try that.

I solved by going into modules>category block and changed "Maximum depth" to 4. Strange because I didn't need that for older categorie but it worked.
