KGI Posted January 20, 2014 Share Posted January 20, 2014 Removed from installing Prestashop - As it should have been posted in here - Ian Hi fellow PS users Now I know lots of you have upgraded many times before, but sadly we, for one reason or another we opted to stay with a version that worked for us. Yes we have the Version 1.24 (on two sites) So now it comes to that time when we really need to up grade. Yes I have looked around a bit on here and also as best as I can on the Prestashop web site, but to be honest some of the information seemed a bit dated (like our PS sites) and not sure if we would do more damage than good by using older infromation on the latest PS version offered. Question: - is it possible to load the new Version of PS onto a domain - and drop in the old data using the orginal data base? or perhaps one of you does have a really detailed agenda of what needs doing in one go; rather than as I read - (to upgrade to two later versions and then use the 1 click up grade method. - which seems so long winded ) Plus although I have sent Prestashop an email 4 weeks ago - I am still waiting to get a reply - another was sent to them today and a phone call - but they have a day of in USA today - so again I have drawn a blank. So out sheer desperation - please, please can a knowledgeable person perhaps adivse further. Plus - I dont know if its me - but the front page of Prestashop is wonderful for the new person who is interested in using PS - but it would also be great if there was a section - "upgrading and continuing to use Prestashop". They say they have 150K users - but there is not much help (perhaps I am not looking in the right place - so sorry if it is there) for existing Prestashop Users. So - if possible - please does someone have a really detailed upgrade shedule they could share with us. (PS 1.24 to todays current version 21/01/2014) Thanking you all in advance. (21/01/2014 Is the data base set up on PS 1.5.6.2 the same as 1.24 if no - what changes have been made and can the the older version data base be updated to that of 1.5.6.1 We need to preserve as much data as possible!! Just added - Question ?? (21/01/2014) OK so we created a new data base for a clean install - so if we down load a copy of the old data base (its got this much data 43,326.64 Kb after 5 years worth, so its not small and down loaded) and re-install into the new database for the version 1.5.6.2 - Will it work - any one know please!! Still no reply from the support team at Prestashop - no reply to my email or the contact us form on their site. Rather sad really! So with Monksurvive - we are looking for the infromation about what coding has changed. So far we have load a clean (untouched) prestashop on a new sub directory - what we want to know is what files to transfer into it, if the old database can be used, if not, what amendments to the Database do we need to do to make usable. Until we have the some of this data we connot proceed to atempt to upgrade. We do have our own techies but rather than go blindfolded - some light on the subject would be a great help - there must be someone a the Prestashop team who can put forward some sort of plan. I am wondering how many other users have not upgraded - and would like to - but now seem to be stuck in a trap with the older versions. Please Prestshop Teams - can you help us. What we are after is the knowledge of if there are any changes we should know about which the new PS version has in the database it uses over the database PS 1.24 uses. JosephdeSouzagoa Posted January 27, 2014 Share Posted January 27, 2014 I suggest you take a complete backup of your current website and database and set up a test installation on a local PC. Then upgrade gradually and step by step till the current version. In your case you will have to go to 1.2.5 first. Then to 1.3 . asgllccb Posted August 26, 2014 Share Posted August 26, 2014 I started on 1.3 something up to 1.4.4.1 a while ago and so far have been able to work out kinks going from the 1.4 on a test. There is some good accumulating info here on the jump to 1.6. I skipped the 1.5's because I couldn't get problems with layout solved that 1.6 took care of. Good luck.
