Amish Gramish
I have been trying to find a free ecommerce program that lets me sell digital products, and I am wondering if PrestaShop offers a digital download option that has safeguards in place that I could customize how many downloads people could try and how long people could have to download the items. And if I can offer such a product with PrestaShop, is there somewhere on PrestaShop.com that I can find a tutorial, or is there a way I can try it out with PrestaShop's online demo? Thanks in advance! Damien Metzger
You can do exactly what you described with PrestaShop.Try the 1.1 beta 4, add a new product and you'll see a checkbox for virtual products in the form.
Rogier
Any estimate when that version will come out of beta?

nistaani
I've been trying to find some additional info about the download options - such as:Number of downloads - easyExpiration date: - why would you want a digital product to expire?Number of days- I take it if you want this accessible all the time you leave it blank or put in 365?Also if a product is virtual can you hide the quantity section? It looks odd having Quantity left next to something that wont really run out of stock.Merry Christmas everyone!

I think the only reason why one would want a digital product to expire is if it is some sort of special, such as a Christmas movie or music album only available for the month of December, to sell a lot of copies of it in a short time, kind of like what Disney does with certain movies in the U.S. Also, holiday themes for certain items, like cubeeart.com has limited edition paper craft.I don't have any answers for the other questions, but you would usually leave the number of days available blank to make it last forever, and the same thing with the quantity available. MrBaseball34
Can you have large files hosted on another server? Will prestashop support off-site hosting like amazon s3 or something else? Thanks! This is not currently supported because the ps_product_download table is what drives it and it has a column named "physically_filename" which is the file name that is to be downloaded and it must be a local filename.
