Sorting gone bad in swedish

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am having some issues with the sorting of products in Swedish. The system treats the swedish characters Å, Ä, Ö as A, A and O, instead of placing them at the end of the alphabet (X, Y, Z, Å, Ä, Ö), as it should. Please see this screen dump.

How do I fix this? Using Prestashop v1.7.

With kind regards,

 - Johan.

I am not sure, but I always thought that in German it was usual to ignore the accents for sorting.

The Swedish characters Å, Ä, Ö, are not A, A and O with accents, they are characters in their own right and are placed last in the Swedish alphabet. If a customer want to find a product which start with a Ä, he will not look for it in the beginning of a alphabetic list, but in the end...

In any site this sorting would only come across as non-valid and unprofessional for a Swedish customer...

If I remember well there is some switch telling a database whether to treat those characters the same as without accent or as separate characters for sorting. Your problem suggests that that switch isn't in the correct position in your case.

Maybe people on the Swedish forum know more about this issue.
