Add script to the main index.php page

I use an off site stat counter that works in the back ground on my stores. I have always simply placed the script code before the end html codes on my last software. I am new to prestashop and am not familiar with how to get this done. I have looked at the index.php and figured out it will not work. All the script does is give me a simple count of daily hits and where they came from. Can this be done with prestashop, can i add my code and if so where. I am thinking maybe a .tpl but not sure and don't want to screw around with the code as I am too new to it.

You can add that code in footer.tpl found in your template directory.
