peanut
HiI'm using a free host who doesn't allow cron jobs so I can't use modules like Birthday Present or customer follow up. But I came across this script called fake / faux cron which can call these cron jobs. More info here:http://www.hotscripts.com/listing/fake-cron-61437/I was wondering if there was a way to perhaps turn it into a module for PS. I'm thinking it might be a useful thing.I'm no expert so is there anyone who will be willing to take this up?
tomerg3
If your host does not allow for cron, I'm pretty sure there's no way around it.There are so many good cheap hosts that allow cron, it will be much easier to just switch.
peanut
Hi Tom,this fake cron script actually works quite well on my host. I've paid for a few extras with my host & they are really good for my current needs. This was an ideal solution to my cron issues. so shared it incase others wanted it too. tomerg3
I thought it was trying to create an actual cron job.I just took a closer look, and it seems to be completely different, in essence (if I got it correctly), it will just be included in a common file which gets executed whenever someone visits your site, it is then set to execute the "Cron" jobs at a given time, and make sure it only happens once. However, if no one visits your site till 7am, then the script will only run at 7 am.
