copy feature on entering products

Hi,
New to Presta Shop. We have an online catalogue that has products that are in a series, but come in different formats. In other words, everything about the product is the same except for the file download which will have a different extension. Is there any copy command in PrestaShop that would allow me to copy the product and then upload a different file?

You may try to find a module to realize this function.

PrestaShop has a duplicate button in the Actions column on the Catalog tab. It is the plus icon. It allows you to copy a product and its images.

thank you Rocky. Unfortunately my site goes down everytime I try to use that function. It's very frustrating.

What version of PHP and MySQL are you using? I know some versions prevent the duplicate option from working.

I'm not sure about the php, but the mysql version is 5.0. Someone else created the site for us..we are just trying to manage it.

Are you getting any actual errors when you try to copy?

If not, you may want to turn on error reporting (/config/config.inc.php line #4) and try to copy again.

It should display an error.

no errors, just "website can't be found" message. After a few attempts I can get back in. but it happens over and over so it is becoming frustrating.

Can you create new products just fine?

I had an issue once that was similar, the search index was messed up, and re-creating it fixed the problem.

Unfortunatelly I can't think of any other reasons for this problem

Yes it seems to be adding new product just fine. How do I re-index?

Preferences->Search, but I don't know if it would help.

Try checking your server's error log (from the cpanel), it may have some more info.

Nothing in the error logs. Just the "website can't be found" almost every time I use the catalog to update a product or enter a new one. It is almost not managable this way.

How many products do you have, how many features?

about 500 products so far. Not sure what you mean by features...

Product features (IE height, length etc), but if you don't know, then most likely you're not using them.

I cannot think of any other reasons why this would happen, unless someone else can think of a reason, the only other option would be to take a close look and find out where in the code things go bad.

I assume you tried it also from another computer / browser.

Yes, I have tried it with IE, Firefox and Chrome. I've recreated my id - it seems to work for a bit and then I get the cannot connect error and have to wait up to 10 minutes for the site to come back. Thanks for your help so far, if you think of anything else, I would appreciate any suggestions.

Well, if you say it happens for 10 minutes, it may very well be related to some firewall settings that are blocking you because of repeated connections (or some other type of protection)
