M4Real
My Web Site developer wants to charge me for Prestashop. I thought Prestashop was free. Is he trying to put one over on me or is there a version that developers use that they actually had to purchase. I said something to him and his response was that the version I would get is the "full" version with access to all the modules and not the same as the free version.I do realize that he should get paid for setting it up and managing it, but, I don't want to pay extra for something that should be free. Thanks
jhnstcks
There is no paid version of Prestashop, it is entirely free, he is trying to con you into paying for something that is free.Ask him which modules are included in his "full" version that arent in the free one.How much is he trying to charge you? tomerg3
He may try to charge you for installing it, which is pretty normal since it involves some work, but Prestashop is free, and if you have 10 free minutes, there's no reason why you would not be able to install it yourself. Thanks for the responses. He hasn't broken down the exact price. He his pricing an entire web site including a shopping cart. He just keeps talking about this awesome shopping cart system that he paid "like $10,000" for. He is obviously trying to rip me off. I'm going to tell him to take a hike.As to the second response, I'm sure after reading this forum, I could install the program myself. I just don't think I could do much with it because I don't know much about html or php, etc..I'm thinking about buy the book I saw offered in another thread. Do you guys think this something a beginner could handle?
tomerg3
I did technical review for that book, and I can tell you from the feedback I get from people that it is great. It is really simple, there is no coding in that book, it is meant to help you figure out the structure that is best for you (using some examples of different sites), and gives a good explanation of all the important parts of Prestashop. The only part about it I don't like is the recommendation to use goDaddy, which has got to be one of the worse hosting companies I ever came across. You may also want to check out http://www.presto-changeo.com/content/14-prestashop-installation-tips

Does it actually require advanced knowledge?

Depends what you want to do.You could pay a designer to create a theme for you, and then all you need to do is upload it. no coding involved at all.If you want to create your own theme, thats a bit more technical, especially if you don't know css, php (to some extent) and html.Theres quite a few modules around now (free and commercial), they are easy to install, just upload to the modules folder and then install from the admin area.
