Downloadable product errors

Hi, Installed and setup Prestashop many times and all works fine. Great package. So when asked to setup a site for digital downloads this was my obvious choice.

Everything works including the file uploads. Paypal bills correctly and sends out confirmation emails.

The problem comes when you click the link for the download, where you are given a 500 page error.

I have set permissions to 755 and 644 for folders and files respectively and no change.

I have looked at my error log and found errors refering to "out of memory". I asked my hosting provider and they advised I made changes to the php.ini to increase these limits which I have also done.

Still no change.
I get the same when I use the bulk upload module purchased from Presto Changeo....

Please help as I am beginning to get bald patches from pulling hair out here

No ideas anyone???

I've searched high and low and can find no valid reason for this. I've even tried fresh installs with different versions of PS to no avail.

Has anyone else at least had similar problems?

You need about X2.5 times the file size in RAM.

If you want to let people download a 20MB file, you need about 50MB in RAM.

It may also be the problem described in http://www.prestashop.com/forums/viewthread/61020 (there's a solution there too)
