[SOLVED]dedicated server or VPS?

I'm looking into getting either a dedicated server or VPS. Mainly for fast performance and google results, and freedom of server configuration.

the choice is between:

Dedicated:

Pentium4 3.0Ghz hyperthreading
1GB RAM
2x 500GB sata raid

For a VPS i get for the same amount:

VPS server

Xeon Quad processor
4096MB RAM
75GB

my common sense tells me that a VPS with 4096mb of ram would be a better option against the 1gb ram of the dedicated.

i'm now on a clusterhosting shared, and find decreasing speed when the database goes over a few hunderd megabyte.

Any comment is welcome, as well as optimal PS server settings..
