Can't save brand & carrier images

I replaced a backup of my prestashop folder back on the server and since then I can't upload images for brands or carriers anymore. The upload of other images for products or for modules works seamlessly. The backup I copied back, was only an hour old and I didn't change a thing since then. I noticed this problem a few days later and I'm almost sure, that this caused the bug as uploading those images worked fine a few days before. Somehow also all the product images where broken, but I could reload them, the brand images where also broken, but here I couldn't reload them, because of the bug.

 

My guess is that the folder permissions changed when copying the files, but I couldn't find a difference at a first look.

 

Is there a way of having more detail on what exactly failed when it says something like "prestashop failed to upload the image"? Can I trace that back somehow?
