How do I generate an .htaccess file?

I see on prestashop it says

Enable only if your server allows URL rewriting (recommended)

If you turn on this feature, you must generate a htaccess file :gulp:
How do I make a file that says htaccess file? I don't want to mess up anything!

i have send you the .htaccess file.

1.Put the .htaccess file under your shop file

2.Back Office >> Preferences open Friendly URL

3.Back Office >> Tools >> Generators =>Generate .htaccess file

I don't have that type of tool. I have a hosting company with cpanel hosting. My email is [email protected]. I will wait for instructions to do this.

Just create a blank file with notepad and save it as htaccess.txt. Then upload this to the root directory of your shop with your FTP program. Set the permissions on the file to 666.

Once uploaded, rename the file to .htaccess. Now go ahead and generate the htaccess file in Tools>Generators.
