[SOLVED] Prestashop 1.3.0 or version 1.2.5

Recommended Posts

Not sure where to put this question. Any idea which one I should use as I see that PrestaShop 1.3.0 is already currently stable released? Is there any problem using third party modules compatible in PrestaShop 1.2 to 1.3? Is there much difference between the two?

You should use PrestaShop v1.3. There are no major differences in the core structure of PrestaShop v1.3 compared to PrestaShop v1.2.5. Most modules designed to work in PrestaShop v1.2.5 should also work in PrestaShop v1.3. The only ones that won't work are the ones that require you to override core PrestaShop files. In that case, you'll need to compare those modified files with the default PrestaShop v1.2.5 and try to make the same changes to the PrestaShop v1.3 files.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Few more questions:
1. Where to find the listing of any changes or bugs in 1.2.5 which are fixed in 1.3.0? Can't find anywhere in the forum yet. (perhaps I overlooked it) :((
2. And what is the circumstances that require the override of these core PrestaShop files?
3. If say, we have installed PrestaShop 1.2.5 do we just copy some files or is it an automatic update and override if we installed the PresaShop 1.3.0 to our same server??

You can check the CHANGELOG file in the root directory or go to the Bug Tracker at the top of the page, click "Show filtering options", choose the "Completed" status then click the Filter button. All the completed bug reports with a "Last modified date" before 25/5/2010 and after 16/9/2009.

Most files have been modified in PrestaShop v1.3 compared to PrestaShop v1.2.5, so it is easiest just to overwrite all files you haven't modified. Don't overwrite img/logo.jpg, img/favicon.ico, modules/editorial/editorial.xml, modules/editorial/homepage_logo.jpg or you will lose your logo and homepage content. If you have modified the translations, then you shouldn't overwrite them. You'll need to add translations for the new strings in PrestaShop v1.3 though. You shouldn't overwrite your theme if you have modified it either. You should recreate your theme based on the PrestaShop v1.3 theme so that you get the bug fixes to the theme.
