momof2girlies
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm a newbie! If I made changes to the default-bootstrap theme in Prestashop 1.6.1.0 (like deleted some of the default images or added my logo to the site), but I want to restore it to the default, do I need to reinstall Prestashop completely?? Paulito
Hello It is better to make changes to a copy of the theme, have a look at this old tutorial (click on the video) http://www.prestatraining.com/copy-default-prestashop-template/ Paul
momof2girlies
Okay, but if I've already screwed up and made changes to the theme and I want the original back, what should I do?
tdr170
Just use your FTP and upload the default theme to the themes directory this will overwrite the files and restore files you may have screwed up.
momof2girlies
sorry for another stupid question, but where do I find the default theme to upload through FTP to my host? would it just be easier to uninstall the theme through my cpanel and then reinstall it? tdr170
You did download and install Prestashop or did you install through CPanel on your host, If you did what version of Prestashop 1.6.1.0 yes, at top of page click on download and down load the zip package to you computer. Once download is complete unzip the file open the themes folder and you will see default-bootstrap that is the theme folder. When you use FTP to upload just upload the entire themes folder with all the sub folder directly to the root of the shop overwriting all.
momof2girlies
I installed it through Softaculous on my cPanel, and I'm using version 1.6.1.0.
tdr170
So follow the instructions from my previous post.
momof2girlies
Okay, I did that. I believe it's where it's supposed to be on the server, but it's still not showing up as an available theme in Prestashop back office...? Is there a way to post a screen shot so you can see? tdr170
So are you saying that you have no themes, you will not have an extra theme at this point just the standard theme but without the file changes you did. Does the Front office work.
momof2girlies
The other theme that I'd installed is there in the back office, and although the default-bootstrap theme LOOKS like it's there on the remote site, it does NOT show up in the back office as an option. Front office works using the other theme that I'd installed.
tdr170
When you say the other theme you installed do you mean the theme you uploaded with FTP, this should have just been used to overwrite the original theme repairing the mistakes you made not giving you 2 themes. Uploading a theme is not the same as installing a theme, installing a theme should be done from the back office Preferences , Themes and must be a different name then the theme in use. When you look at the themes folder with FTP what do you see should look like this: ../themes/default-bootstrap
momof2girlies
Right, it does. But there's also another theme that I'd bought and installed in that folder. That's the one that shows up in the back office. The default-bootstrap does not, even though it shows in the themes folder with FTP!
momof2girlies
Okay, I ended up just reinstalling Prestashop. Thanks for all your help.
