Small question Geo-location

Hi,

 

Is it correct that, the Geo-location function automatically sets the country of the visitor on the site based on the IP adress of the visitor?

 

If so, does it also work correct?

yes and no

 

yes, it will set the country of the visitor from IP when it can be resolved

 

no, in that if it cannot resolve the IP, it will deny shopping to visitor (note: geolitecity.dat from maxmind is used, which from their website tells us it's 85% accurate).

 

I wrote module that allows you to assign (amongst other things) a default country to non-resolved IP addresses so visitors can still shop.  Note restricting countries from shopping should be done in where you allow shipping/registration.
