Error with phone number on checkout

Guys

 

My customers are getting the following error, which appears to be due to the mobile phone number.

 

TECHNICAL ERROR: unable to save adresses Details: Error thrown: [object Object] Text status: error

 

I have switch off the mandatory number in the preferences and cleared the cache etc, but I can't get the cart to checkout.

In Chrome is gives the error above.  In Firefox and IE a red box is shown asking for a phone number, even when it's been entered and a green tick is shown.

 

Can anyone help?

when exactly you see this error?

to reproduce the problem: i have to use guest checkout? or create new account?

Try the instant checkout option.  I've had several customers trying to place orders.  On chrome it displays the technical message, whereas on Firefox it actually pops up the red box, about phone number being required.

 

It also does the same thing when trying to register a new account.

Looking around this site, it would appear that this is a common problem, but I have failed to find a solution.  One thread seemed to suggest copying fresh files into the shop.  This worries me a bit though.

 

Any ideas guys?

Still go problems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Anyone got any suggestions.  I've been trying to upgrade the site to the latest version using localhost, but it keeps failing.
