Webhost upgrading PHP version and disabling mail function - what problems to expect?

Hi all,

 

I received an email from the company that hosts one of my client's site. In the email they inform me that they are upgrading the server to php 5.4 and that they will disable the mail function.

 

Even though they emailed links with a step-by-step guide to configurate SMTP emails for Joomla!, Wordpress and custom code, they didn't do the same for Prestashop users.

 

So my questions are:

 

1) Will the php upgrade mess my Prestashop store (version 1.5.6.0) in some way? Are there any known issues?

2) Does Prestashop use the mail function for sending the automatic emails, and if so, what can I do to keep the service running correctly after the mail function is disabled?

 

I'm backing up the site and the database as I write. I hope nothing goes wrong :/

I've seen Presta running under 5.4 with no issues. As for mail, you will have to change the settings to use SMTP instead of it, under advanced parameters, email

I emailed the webhost yesterday and I finally got an answer, They will help me configure the SMTP email. I'm waiting for the server info (domain mail, server, etc)  that I just asked them for.

 

They also told me that, if I find any issue with the new PHP update, I can downgrade to a previous version in cPanel's administration page. So let's just wait and see how the site behaves to the update, later today.
