Adding an SSL Certificate

Recommended Posts

Hello, sorry for the dumb question.  We are looking at a new payment gateway, so far we have only used PayPal, and the new gateway requires us to have an SSL certificate.  I can buy one online, but don't know how to enable one in Prestashop.  I did a search in the User Guide and didn't come up with anything.

When you buy a certificate, do you specify the url for the main site or just the store portion of the main site?

Thanks for any and all help.

Ross

Hi drchevalier,

I remember the prestashop's SLL behaviour is only using login, regist and checkout page when you enable SSL feature in the back office.

The menu is located in Preferences -> General.

I hope it help you

Hi there,

When SSL certificate is purchased you need to specify the domain or subdomain for which the SSL certificate needs to be issued. This is a global requirement from the Certificate Authorities which are verifying and issuing the SSL certificate. Keep in mind that if your Prestashop is installed on domain.com you might want to issue the SSL certificate for www.domain.com as it will be valid for both domain.com and www.domain.com

Once the SSL certificate is issued you will probably receive it on your email and you will need to install it on the server. If you are using cPanel then most probably you will need to access the WHM service and from the the Install SSL certificate option. If you do not have access to that location you will need to contact your hosting provider.

When the SSL certificate is installed and fully functional you will need to of course enable it via the Back Office -> Preferences -> General.

Am I correct in thinking you need to have a unique IP for each SSL certificate?

So if your cpanel has more than one domain on it, you can only associate the certificate with one of those domains?

Also we have a WHM virtual server with a single IP address. We have a number of cpanels with one domain on each one.  But again, because the WHM has a single IP address does that mean we can only allocate to one cpanel?

Hi there Haylau,

Usually you are correct, however there is a small "if" there :)

  1. There is a feature called SNI which will allow you to have as much as SSL certificates you would like on a single IP address. Here is a link to the explanation.
  2. You can have only a single IP address per cPanel account, which means that all addon/subdomains for that account will be using that IP address and respectively all SSL certificates installed for any addon/subdomain under that account will also be installed on the very same IP address.

So as you can see it all depends on the environment setup from the hosting provider used by Chevalier . Let's not turn this into cPanel discussion and focus on the experienced issue by Chevalier :)

Best Regards,
