Blocknewproducts (new arrivals) and multistore: products show up on all stores

The title says it all.

 

Setup: products must be added to the root and then associated with a specific sub shop. This will allow us to share products with all shops but still be able to only show products in their specific sub shop categories and not on other shops.

If I do not add the product at top level the shopping carts won't work. It's all been tested, it is working and I'm loving it.

 

The problem:

However it seems that at least the blocknewproducts module does not have a setting to grab only a specific category just like the featured products block has. Same goes for the specials block module.

 

Questions:

- is there a way to make this work so that new/discounted products associated to one shop do not display on other shops?

- are there better modules out there? free or paid doesn't matter it must work as intended.

- for the people who have experience with multishop, do you have any tactics or strategies regarding showing your top sellers, fast movers, new products that I can use, etc and learn from people who have already walked the path I am walking? Any specific code or modules used? Did you have to write custom code?

 

This is an important feature and my shop is almost working perfectly. I'm suspecting these modules do not properly support multistore though, am I being too sceptic?

It is in that module - blocknewproducts. Its getNewProducts function doesn't care about shops. A small fix will fix it.
