How can I ask customer where they are from?

I want to ask customers on the homepage, preferably in the topbar, where they are from so I can show the stock levels I have in the closest warehouse. I use advanced stock managment with two warehouses.

 

Is this possible?

It is, but it's definitely not easy.

You need to create a new module that will accept the input (I suggest ZIP-based), then save it to the cookie object.

If the cookie exists, you override the stockAvailable class to retrieve quantities from the closest warehouse based on the zip range (this will be the trickiest part, you might need to use the google maps api for distance)

Thanks. Can I not just let them choose between two warehouses? Because we only have USA and Europe and a dropdown with these two option would be enough for me.

Is there no way of doing this? A simple drop down and show either this or that stock level? I have seen this on every other onlineshop that sells international as this is a basic feature, can´t believe there is no solution for Prestashop.

Hm, yes you can add a warehouse dropdown but you need to code the rest so that it only takes quantity out of the right warehouse (again, php)
