How can I add different carriers to different products, where some are weight or size related ??

For instance I sell some items that normally go as UK letter post, however some items are greater then 1m in length and have to go by private carrier.

How can I set different carriers to different products.

If a normal item and a large item are ordered at the same time. Hoe can I get the private carrier to override the letter post ??

I would like to know this too, until now I am setting the weight for the 1m product very high so the customers have to use the "private carrier"

I have asked for this before, but no clue yet.
I was thinking of using Features, eq set the Depth to (in my case) 50 cm and then hack which carriers are available, but I haven't found a way to access the features.
I would think this to be a not to hard thing to do, but no hints so far.

I am facing the same problem too. I am using Prestashop 1.2.5

I have created 2 shipping carriers
1. Ship by Airmail
2. Ship by Air Parcel

Since some of the product I sell could only sent by “Air Parcel”. Could I pre-defined at each product about thier available carrier? (i.e. Product A is ok for carrier 2 only, product B is ok for both 1 or 2 carriers…)
