Step 5 Payment Page Customization

Hi all,

Using Default Bootstrap Theme :

In step5 (5step checkout) is their any way to show a more simplified version of the cart? Since in step5 the customer is no longer allowed to add/remove or adjust quantities, this is only a final review.

The reason i ask is because the payment details sit right underneath the cart details (often below the fold)  And at such a critical time during the checkout, if the customer cannot easily identify where he needs to enter his/her credit card details they will simply leave the page.

Want i want to try to achieve is to put the cart summary in a left column, and the payment details on the right column

Presently this is what I have as example (see attached)

You can see that the Paypal Module and the Credit Card Module firstly looks out of place and is a little confusing as to what needs to be done.

If we can move the cart summary to the left and payment module to the right, this would solve the problem of visibility.

Let me know if you guys know what I can do fix the problem I have having.

I am also attaching what i wish for it to look like or very similar too. see second attachment

Cheers.

Hi,

Yes, well the 1 page checkout is quite broken as we all know... and has had no improvement since 1.5

I started a Vote for it here : http://feedback.prestashop.com/forums/124931-general/suggestions/5748510-real-one-page-checkout

and it now has over 500 votes, and is currently "under review status" by the prestashop developers. Fingers crossed.

The 1 page checkout in its current form is disastrous and confusing, it forces you to click "SAVE" and register before you can see any payment options, Not a real one page checkout. A true 1 page checkout has the cart on the left and payment and shipping on the right.

The best one page checkout i have seen on the web is done by a little company with quite a big business called Diamond Candles, google them and check out their one page checkout, its beautiful, easy and simple.

I have even purchased the 1 page checkout module here, and its still quite ugly and slow.  So for now the 5 page checkout is the best option because while it's still broken in many ways, it is the most each to understand for buyers.  Still Step 2 and Step 5 are the most confusing for users.

Step5 because the payment options are underneath and do not match the look and feel of the page.

Anyway, im still looking for a way to fix Step5, or find much better 1 page checkout.

Thanks

Ricky

"Broken" as it doesn't work?  Or "broken" in that you do not like how it functions or looks?   I have used OPC in both PS v1.5 and v1.6 and it works quite well.

What is the issue with clicking Save?  Is it necessary to see payment options before creating an account?  Doesn't it function exactly how the 5 page checkout does, in that you have to create an account before you see carrier and payment options?

So if both function the same way, isn't OPC more convenient for the customer, as opposed to having to click "continue" 4 times?

You are certainly free to alter the design of step 5 to your liking.  If you do not have that experience, have you tried to hire a developer to change the page design to your liking?

Yes, Broken as in it looks like it was coded in the 2001. it works but barley.  The experience is not great and same as it has been since 1.4/1.5

As you can see me an about 500 other people have voted on this fix or lets say a functionality upgrade..

Anyway I am getting a bit off-topic, now getting back to the problem, at this point i have not hired a designer, but will think about it soon.   I have hired lots of them in the past, and all of their code usually breaks when it comes to an  upgrade, so i have decided now to do most of the jobs myself unless their is a module that has been tried and tested.

Moreover sometimes there are coders here who have already done it for their site and are happy to share some tips or advice as to how to get it done... i guess i am looking for insight into what i would need to change, and so others can see what the potential solution maybe as i know i am not the only one looking for a better solution.

P.S i bought your stripe module, works well!

thanks!

RICKY

I agree with you there, the design of OPC has not changed since being introduced in later versions PS v1.4 (nor has 5 page for that matter).

Does seem like a number of people would like to see this redesigned, but is 500 a minority or the majority?

Unfortunately this is all theme design, so even if a module could do it, it is really just restyling the theme through overrides and sorts.  The OPC module from zelarg, while it is very good, it is very complex and does not play well with other modules that would also impact the checkout pages.  In many cases, you still need to save the account information before the carrier and payments can be displayed.  The OPC module basically tricks the system into using a "fake" or "dummy" customer for all customers before they create their own.  That means it has to default to a specific country and customer group to work, and that may not be a safe assumption for all merchants.

P.S i bought your stripe module, works well!

Yea, I thought that looked familiar in your screen shot :)

If it were me, I wouldn't wait for PS to redesign this.  I would likely hire a web designer to create a design that you favor, and then work with a developer to restyle your theme.  Certainly not an easy task, nor a cheap task, which I can understand is part of the reason you want PS to do it, but you might be waiting for a while...

That all aside, I would still rather use the existing OPC which is at least streamlined for customers and still a better experience than a 5 page checkout process.  Both require that the customer save their account information before choosing carrier/payments.
