terryfritsch
I want to sell software and I want to give the customer the option to either download it or have it shipped on disc.If they choose to ship it on disc, I'd like to let them also access the download. (Sometimes a customer just likes a hard copy, but still wants instant access). Can anyone think of a way to make this happen with the least amount of product entries? The most ideal solution might be something like:They're on a virtual product page, and that page has a 'cd' option. If the cd option is checked then shipping is added.I can't seem to make this work...
PrestaHeroes USA
I think this is no problem with PrestaShop, here is some good starter doc that will help http://doc.prestashop.com/display/PS16/Managing+Product+Attributes
tsprings
I am also interested in this. I initially tried this route and was disappointed to see that I cannot use combinations in conjunction with virtual products.
terryfritsch
Thanks for the quick reply. I've looked at attributes but I'm not able to see how an attribute can add shipping or weight to a virtual product. Or, vice versa, I don't see how it can add a download to standard product. Is there something about attributes that I'm missing? PrestaHeroes USA
you probably know more about attributes than I do, I also sell virtual. but I did at one time add an attribute group called upgades, with 1-year and no upgrade which worked. So I should think you could add attribute group CD with mail or no mail. These can also affect price. http://screencast.com/t/4TFmyxbf again no expert but the upgrade group worked for me...even though I eventually removed. PrestaHeroes USA
I re added the attributes to one virtual product (from above) http://screencast.com/t/TQhnpvdxGIlO
Whispar1
El Patron is right - this is the only way I know to do it (attribute with nothing and attribute with an upgrade) without a special module. Also check here an article from nemo about virtual products and combinations. It is for 1.5 so not sure how it works in 1.6 http://nemops.com/prestashop-1-5-virtual-products-combinations/#.U6oiDPldXzI
terryfritsch
Thanks for the advice. It sounds like there's not a built-in way to accomplish what I need. I'll look into that post about overriding PS to allow combinations on a virtual product. If it works I'll let you know.
terryfritsch
In case anyone comes across this - there isn't a great way to accomplish this without hacking at least some core files or creating a complete module. There is a reliable paid module here that may be worth it if you need it bad enough - http://www.presto-changeo.com/en/prestashop-modules/69-batch-downloadable-product-pro.html
