bbt
I have been really struggling with image quality issues with Prestashop and wonder if anyone has worked out a useable solution. Before anyone points me to image setting, all are set to max quality. The problem is I am able to create a jpg from photoshop that is 100 times better than that which Prestashop produces through GD and at a smaller size. GD through Prestashop seems to have particular problems with reds with massive artefact problems. I would simply upload my own copy to replace the produced ones though this is very cumbersome. I hoped that by creating the large default size exactly for product images that it would at least use my copy there, but even that is resized again, often becoming larger in size yet far more jpeg lossy artefacts. Is there a workable addon, solution or method so as to remove the cumbersome process of going through the folders to find exactly where each product is located and creating my own files for each one? I can see problems with that process anyway as I could never re-process the thumbnails for the smaller images if I make an adjustment to the image sizes needed for the layout. Images are everything with selling online, and this area may simply cause me to go to another platform if I cant arrange a workable solution. I would really like to use Prestashop, but this is such a massive problem. Example below of similar file size, but the max quality achieved by Prestashop on the left which is terrible. Please click on the example to see clearly the problem. Edited November 27, 2013 by bbt (see edit history)
bbt
Oh, btw I can not use PNG files as much as I would like to. They tend to turn out at around 1mb in size for my layout which is obviously way too large. There is no problem with the PNG files created through GD though, the quality is fine. bbt
It seems that GD is simply not up to the task with larger than thumbnail images from what I can tell. I have normally used ImageMagick which does a far better job in comparison. Has anyone been able to use it with Prestashop. Most scripts out there allow you to choose. I would assume I just need to rewrite the image classes involved though I hope someone else out there may have already figured that out and may be able to lend a hand? tuk66
You can set JPG as well as PNG image quality under Preferences > Images (v1.5).
bbt
You can set JPG as well as PNG image quality under Preferences > Images (v1.5). Yes you can, although GD does a terrible job at optimising JPG's apart from small thumbnails. PNG's on the other hand are great but way too large to be useable even at the lowest quality setting. GD is simply not a usable library for images and the option to use ImageMagick should be available as it allows for a decent quality small JPG files for use with larger images. Im afraid with much research on the matter I am going to have to customise a mod to allow me to use ImageMagick or I will have to use an alternative platform. With GD, Prestashop is not up to the task for a serious eCommerce solution. Images are just so important!
vishnuo
I have the same issue. I see plenty of artifacts on my white background. has anyone found an issue to this?? i uploaded Jpeg and set quality to max. the thickbox image is ok, since i uploaded at thickbox size, but all other smaller ones which are resized have artifacts. tuk66
I'm not seeing any problem. Both images are more than acceptable.
