I don't know if this is possible or how I would go about doing it so any info is appreciated. I am using the default theme in v 1.5.4

I have my site up and am quite pleased with it so far thanks in part to all the help I have got here. I want to add a password protected area to my site that wholesalers would have access to. The products would be the same as the general site but the pricing and the shipping costs would be different. Is there anyway to accomplish this?

As I am writing this I am thinking that the ability to restrict different prices to different groups might work, but what about the shipping? And how do I go about changing the prices for different groups, would that be something like a cart rule?

Hi there!

Well, based on groups you can create catalog cart rules with various discounts, or you can add a discount for a certain group in the group configuration itself. To create password protected areas you'd need a custom modification, still, you can only grant access to certain categories to certain groups, so that regular customers are not able to see them.

 

Same for shipping, it's possible to restrict shipping based on the customer group

Thank you for the reply Nemo1. I was looking into this last night and realized that the groups configuration would be the way to go, but I could not see where or how to go about restricting shipping or handling costs to specific groups. The only settings I could find for those effect globally.

You can set it up for each carrier in the carrier configuration page Just check/uncheck the groups you want!
