ALEXCNX
Hello, The size of the images I upload are much larger than the original ones'. I upload an image size 100Kb, check its size in the admin and the size is now 280Kb... Is this normal? Thanks, Alex
PascalVG
Hi Alex, Which images are you talking about exactly? Logo, products, slider, etc? If it's a product image, say product with ID 10, which picture(s) have a larger size? 10.jpg, 10_large_default.jpg etc. What type are the original pictures? jpg, gif, png? If you download the big sized picture, are the dimensions still the same as the original? pascal
ALEXCNX
Hi Pascal, I hope you're doing well : ) I am talking about the large images, which format is jpeg. If I download a large image (either from the products in the back-office or from the site), the dimensions are the same but the size is larger than the original. For example the size of the image here. is 280Kb whereas the original is only 100Kb. Note that there an "easy zoom" feature installed. vekia
you can setup the quality of an image under preferneces > images tab, can you for test purposes change it? (decrease a bit) also what image type you use? png or jpg?

Under preferences > images, I've decreased the jpg quality to 50 but the size remains the same
PascalVG
Alex, Just checking: after you changed the quality as Vekia described, did you regenerate the product pictures? (Otherwise they will stay the same) Can you check what jpg quality the original picture has? I noticed that if you have a jpg picture (with some quality say of 70 or 80) and then edit the picture (no changes) and changes as jpg 100, the size is actually bigger than the 70/80 %, (even though the real quality cannot be better than the original, of course) So, he difference probably arises because the original picture has a different (read: lower) jpg quality than the ones in Prestashop. So try one more time to regenerate the pictures, with quality 50% and then 100%. Do you see any difference in size now? pascal

I just did regenerate the large ones but the size remains the same. I don't know what is the original picture jpg quality. Do you mean resolution? I here-attach an original picture we upload and that same picture downloaded from the site. I am unsure whether this is relevant or not, but the settings for the pictures dimensions in the back-office look odd. For example the large_default are 264 x 264 px. However, this size appears to be that of the picture on the product page, not the large ones. The large pictures are much larger. parsifal
Under preferences > images, I've decreased the jpg quality to 50 but the size remains the same ALEXCNX, for some reason the change didn't take and PS still applies a compression with JPEG quality set at 100. Check what IrfanView says about your 2 attached pics: Edited September 20, 2013 by parsifal (see edit history)
