[Solved] Cant get my tax rules to work

Recommended Posts

I cant seem to get my tax rules to work. I am from South Africa and our tax is 14%

This is the only tax rule I've setup, but when creating an item and I put a value in "retail price with tax" ... even though my tax rule is selected, the "pre-tax retail price" changes to the same as the value I inputted ... in other words NO tax calculation gets done.

Where am I going wrong?

We'd need to see what you have entered in the Tax Rule.

Hi Bellini, thanks for the reply ...

In the Back Office, under Localization/Taxes, I added a new tax called "Tax 14%" (see attached untitled-1.jpg)

Name : Tax 14%

Rate : 14.000

Enable : Yes

Tax Options are as follows : (see attached untitled-2.jpg)

Enable Tax : Yes

Display tax in shopping cart : Yes

Based on : Invoice Address

Use ecotax : No

Under Localization/Tax Rules, I added a new rule called "Tax 14%" ... under that rule I added only South Africa with the following settings : (see attached untitled-3.jpg)

Country : South Africa

Zip code range : 0000 - 9999

Behavior : This tax only

Tax : VAT 14% (the one I created)

Description : VAT @ 14%

Is there any thing I need to set somewhere else?

Only other thing would be to ensure that the tax is selected in each of the products price tab. and of course that the invoice address you use during checkout is one of those zip code.

I do select the tax when creating the product, but still the price stays the same ... see attached picture

My tax is 14% ... item price is R 6500 ... so excl tax should be R5701.75

On check out the tax gets added onto the R6500, making the selling price R7410 ... where the final price stay R6500 (R5701.75 + R798.25 tax = R 6500)

Oh, then it is working properly.

I would not expect the price to change on the products price tab, because there is no context of zip codes in the back office.

Don't understand what you are trying to say here ... as it's obviously NOT working properly!

See the attached screenshot of my localhost test site ...

Correct! BUT in the product creation, both including AND excluding totals remain the same ... so the front end uses the same amount and adds VAT again ...

R 4500 + 14% = R 5130

instead of

R 3947.37 + 14% = R 4500

Look at the 2 images in my 2 last posts

Ok, so I eventually got this to work by adding ALL countries into my tax rules @ 14%

Another question : I saw somewhere in back office setting an option to show either including or excluding tax prices on your products page ... where do I set that? I can't seem to find it again ... my product page now shows the excluding tax value
