[TIP] Got hacked and fixed it? It's not over yet.

Recommended Posts

did you get hacked? Fixed it and think all is good?

Think again.

From personal experience (our site got hacked in June 2011), once you get black listed say by Google, and even after you prove to Google you are no longer a threat to anyone, you are still going to be blacklisted by untold number of so-called anti-virus programs.

For example, I work often work out of a library. My main URL, the one reported hacked, is still in their blacklisted site. Lucky for me I run our 1.4 MultiShop module so I could see our site from another URL.

Another example, we had someone interested in one of our modules but when they visited (this is last month, June 2013 one year after getting hacked), their anti-virus sfw told them our site was suspect. They not only didn't buy our module but they also posted on this forum our site was hacked.

What to do?

My honest opinion, don't fall in love with your URL.

Get another URL.

Then do a 301 redirect of your old URL to the new URL.

Then move on.
