Home page meta description

Really struggling to change the home page (index) meta description. It was the placeholder Latin copy, when i originally seacrhed for my site in google. Now it's somehow showing details of products, but not sure how it's doing this. i want to write a description of the shop and also change the name of the page to 'home', instead of 'index', how can i do this in 1.5? i've tried going to SEO, in preferences, but it doesnt seem to work.

The title of your website (Which is shown in the title bar/tab of your homepage (or hover above it in Chrome):

 

SEO and URLs : Index -> edit. Page title

 

The <h1> and <h2> of your home page is defined in Home Text editor module. Add this module to your site and go to module-> configuration of the Home text editor module. Here your can add a title and sub title.

N.B. These are the fields that Google shows when searching. So put your keywords in those fields!
