adibranch
Hi all, i'm using the mobile theme mod for prestashop 1.4 , and would like to use the m.domain subdomain for the mobile version. The problem is, this doesnt make sense to do so? From what i understand, the mobile module detects the presence of a mobile device, and switches themes to the mobile theme. Its still the same site, just a different theme.. correct? So, if i want to serve the mobile version of the site under a different subdomain m.domain.com, all i'll be doing is sending the exact same content as the main domain ! Ie view m.domain.com in a normal browser and you'll see exactly the same as you would with domain.com . This seems nuts. Unless i'm getting it wrong? PascalVG
A mobile theme filters out heavy load stuff, like (big) pictures, and graphically advanced stuff. You can play with ps 1.5. It has an option for mobile devices. Here you can see what it (can) look(s) like. My 2 cents
adibranch
okay, but thats not really what i asked ! I'm wondering how to set up an m.subdomain for a mobile template which simply changes the theme of the original site based on the browser type. I cant see how its possible to do this. Dh42
One thing you are going to run into if you set up a sub domain is that an ssl certificate for your site will be about 10-20 times higher. I generally pay $7 -$10 for an ssl certificate for a site, but when you want a sub domain secured you have to use what they call a wildcard certificate. the cheapest I have seen them is $92, but the ev ones go up to around $500. I do not know who prestashop's mobile theme is set up, but that is how it *should* react, it is bad practice to use a mobile subdomain in my opinion.
