carlsonauto
My categories worked fine a few hours ago I added a few products to a category or three and poof when i click on them in the back office I get an error that says "This webpage has a redirect loop" among other things... In the front office I get an error 404. Please help!!!
carlsonauto
Also I'm not sure if its a related issue or not but in the front office if you click on any product (you can only get to ones in the new products block with no categories) It will only take you to the #1 product no matter what one you click on... This is very frustrating... This is a fresh install of version 1.5.3.1 btw there are other issues too but these are the the big ones..
Silvie
Hi, if you are having problems with redirect loops, try to clear your browser's cache and cookies and turn off friendly URL feature. It also helped me just having friendly URLs on and turning off the automatic canonical URL redirect for a while.. carlsonauto
There is a warning after the friendly URL check boxes that says URL rewriting (mod_rewrite) is not active on your server or it is not possible to check your server configuration. If you want to use Friendly URLs you must activate this mod. I assume this probably has something to do with it but I am not sure.
carlsonauto
anyone?? There is so many issues with this for a clean install and all I did was add products to it. Is there something with my server that's not correct and causing all this or is this just the way prestashop is going to be?? I was going to install a bunch of custom modules and a template to this site but if its not going to work I would be a fool throwing my money at a lost cause.. can anybody help me fix this or do i need to start over with other software? tdr170
Try turning off Friendly URL's and Canonical URL and save, turn back on and save, this should rewrite your .htaccess file.
carlsonauto
I have done this many times.. all it seems to do is make my "magic quotes" error (if you can call it that) get angry again...
carlsonauto
I tried it again just because you asked me to and I don't want to b that guy that's a little bi*** when you try to help him ( I post on auto forums all the time and that irritates me to no end) anyhow It didn't change, I tried it with it all enabled and disabled and then enabled again and its still angry at me.... tdr170
What host are you with do you have access to your PHP.ini file, if so do you have magic quotes set to off and allow_url_fopen set to on. Usually with the to many redirects its a .htaccess issue, I take it from your post that with Friendly and canonical URLs set to off the issue still exist. Can you post your .htaccess file here so we can have a look at it.
carlsonauto
I am hosted with namecheap on this particular site. I have been turning off magic quotes with my .htaccess file and every time I try anything in my back office it rewrites the .htaccess file and I get the magic quotes error again. The magic quotes obviously isn't the issue so I gave up fixing that every 38 seconds until I get the rest of it fixed. Doesnt look like i have access to my php.ini file.... benjamin utterback
Hi Jake, how did you install your PrestaShop? via FTP? This is version 1.5.3.1? The htaccess file should be located in your root folder.
carlsonauto
I was incorrect I do have access to my php.ini and all 3 magic quotes settings are off and "allow_url_fopen" is set to on... all of which were already like that, I did not change them... carlsonauto
Hi Jake, how did you install your PrestaShop? via FTP? This is version 1.5.3.1? The htaccess file should be located in your root folder. I have the .htacces file I'm just unsure how to post it up on this particular forum. (Its way different than what i am used to) I unzipped locally and ftp (filezilla) uploaded it to the root folder and installed it there. it is 1.5.3.
benjamin utterback
what are the permissions set to the htaccess file? You can copy and paste the htaccess or click "More Reply Options" and select Attach files. Have you contacted your host about this issue? This is definitely not a standard issue with a fresh install of 1.5.3.1.
carlsonauto
I have contacted my host many times about various things ant their tech support is absolutely awesome!!! I'm not exactly sure what to ask them to fix so I have not asked them to look at it. htaccess.txt
carlsonauto
there is a chance my ftp client messed something up, it has happened before. My internet is absolutely horrendous and it takes about an hour to upload all the files.
benjamin utterback
Hey Jake, can you check with their customer service team if your mod_rewrite is active on the server. Yeah, that was going to be another suggestion. You may just need to upload 1.5.3.1 again.

Yeah, that was going to be another suggestion. You may just need to upload 1.5.3.1 again. I will ask their tech support now and see what they say... If I do need to redo it is there a way to NOT lose all the products I loaded?? It will be the third time I have had to redo everything if I cant save them somehow.... benjamin utterback
Hi Jake, I would first contact them and wonder why it's not working on their servers. A 1.5.3.1 fresh install should not behave that way. You can also install another version on a test subdomain.
carlsonauto
This one worked flawlessly initially. I added about 1/4 of my products under the home category then created subcategories and moved probably 20 items to their proper category then checked to make sure it was working still and thats when a hell broke loose... carlsonauto
this is what I got back from tech support about the mod_rewrite "Hello Jake, mod_rewrite is supported on any of our shared web-hosting plans. Please, let us know if you have more questions."
carlsonauto
I also assume its not a good plan to upload a zip file and then unpack it on the server???
carlsonauto
did a complete fresh install and the back office works fine after installing categories but I get the redirect loop error on front office now... needless to say I'm real amused.... benjamin utterback
Hey Jake, how long have you had namecheap as your host. I'm not sure how you feel about switching to a more compatible host. It's either that, or the internet connection that is the problem. If you have a slow internet connection the files may not have transferred properly. Have you taken a look at other hosting providers that offer a simple script one click install?
carlsonauto
I have had namecheap for about a month. I went there because my website on godaddy doesn't work any better and I was assuming it was the hosting. My brother is a web developer for a living and has been helping me from work and has uploaded and tried updating and tried fresh installs on both sites and it doesn't work any better for him...... I completely wiped my files clean and uploaded Magento on to my namecheap hoisting and it seems to be working flawlessly thus far and I am happy as could be!!!!
