shacker
seems like a javascript error, can you check with google chrome if you have some errors on the console?=
otagocountry
Thank you for your reply and advice. I am scared of trying to upgrade Prestashop on my website as I have already failed twice resulting in two complete re-builds. When I pluck up the courage to have a go the third time I will use chrome instead of explorer. Thanks once again for taking the time to respond. otagocountry
I have tried the third time now exactly the same problem. Prestashop says delete the install folder and rename the admin folder and go to the new url at which point I cannot log in. I have tried another browser. It shouldn't be this difficult! vekia
press fn+F12 / F12 and you will see: turn on console tab - next try to login and check error log in console, paste the source of window here you can also install firebug extension (it's the same but in my opinion works better with ajax debug procedure)

otagocountry
Definitely an issue with the admin folder. I replaced it with an old back up made late last year and logged in fine but the back office was all disjointed. I have left things as they were and am still in the same situation unable to log in. Last night we identified an error and I have included this below. Uncaught ReferenceError: $ is not defined index.php:
otagocountry
Hi shaker and vekia. I would appreciate any advice at what file to target in my admin folder so I can delete the existing one and replace it with a backed up file. I feel this is what is required or a alteration in php script which can do if given directions. Please let me know if you have any further ideas. Thanks again for time and expertise in these areas. shacker
you need to upload the current admin folder of your version, try to upload the admin, and all folders of prestashop like js, classes, css etc again
otagocountry
Hi Shaker I don't know how to do this (access and upload the current admin file). I uploaded one from public_html.bak but it did nothing.
vekia
@otagocountry it's simple but you must know something about FTP servers. You need to connect to your webservice. Next download the same version of prestashop that you have there, unpack it on your hdd and copy all files from admin folder into admin111 directory located in root dir of your prestashop. If you don't know how to do this, we can do it for you but we need an access to ftp server and information about prestashop version that you have on your hosting. Of course for free localhost/admin --> remote/admin111 best regards
otagocountry
Hi Vekia Thanks, I will have a go at this right now and get back to you in the morning on how I went. Hopefully I can get this done. Thanks to you and shaker once again for helping me work through the issue. Take care

otagocountry
I have downloaded another install from the prestashop website and extracted the admin folder onto my desktop The uploader button asks me to select file and therefore I can't select the admin folder to upload (it opens out to its contents). I don't have anything which looks like your screenshot. Is there a particular file i should be using. Very late here and off to bed. If I get further instructions I will get onto it through the night. Thanks Vekia

otagocountry
Hi Vekia and Shacker I didn't hear back over the weekend so I went back to my old backed up version so I'm back to square one; a working version of 1.4.7. It appears to me the issue is a faulty admin folder or file from the installation and we were toying with the idea of updating manually (without the use of softaculous). In any event we are back using the old version and I do appreciate your input. You have to realize I am a non IT person so there are large gaps in what I can do. The little you have asked has been a big stretch for me. To be honest I am just about done using Prestashop due to the difficulties I am having with the upgrade. This is the fifth time I have tried it. IE will not let me log into the forum panel here and I have to do it using google chrome. I don't know why this is. Take care Vekia and Shacker, I am very greatful for your advice. Shawn
