Need help refining "Catalog Mode"

Recommended Posts

Hi, this is my first post and I'm hoping someone can help. I've been using Zen Cart for years but find PrestaShop's Admin a whole lot easier to use. Despite having less than three hours experience, I'm managing to create an interesting site.

I wish to use PrestaShop purely in Catalog Mode to run my (currently closed to the public) Trainz Resources Directory which contains over 1,000 listings. If this works out okay, I'll then upgrade another four directories

When used as a catalog, the PrestaShop scripts seem to be very bloated and I need to refine them to fit the allocated space on my server. What I plan to do, and also do with Zen Cart, is to prepare everything on a WAMP server at home, then FTP the ammended database and new images once weekly. This has allowed me to (i) remove the admin section of Zen Cart from the remote server and (ii) trim back all unused PHP files in the Catalog.

I'm sure I can do the same with PrestaShop by removing the Admin section and all unused catalog modules, but what about other unused files?

Does anyone have a list of Catalog files that aren't accessed when the script is set to "Catalog Mode"? Such a list would be soooo handy and save me many hours experimenting.

I just checked your site, it looks cool.

But I don't understand why you want to remove the unused files?

For all the modules, you can easily uninstall it and delete completely.

But for those core files, some of them are related to each others you will have to do it very carefully.

Thanks for the comment. There are several reasons I'd like to remove the unused shop files: The entire script weighs in at 40 meg without the admin and I'm probably using 5 to 10 meg of that or even less. Most is to do with the cart, login, customers etc. I need none of that and if I could find a dedicated OS catalog I'd be using it. 40 meg may not sound much, but multiply it by five (number of directories in all) and you have 200 meg. Then add all the photos and it starts to stack up on a small server. Plus my Internet runs at dialup speeds with lots of dropouts. The less I have to transfer the better. I have Zen Cart down to about 20 meg or less but it still takes a day to upload it for the first time.

Granted that it may be more trouble than it's worth, but I was hoping a listing might be available.
