waffen
I have a prestashop based site up and running since Dec, although still being in progress, but the content is in place, SEF url on, robots.txt properly set. Yet it isn't even indexed in any major search engine. What might be the reason behind it?As i'm running out of ideas, any help would be highly appreciated. jhnstcks
Have you actually submitted it to any search engines or directories?
waffen
No but it doesn't matter, search bots are supposed to index my sites anyway and come back on a regular basis. Manual submission has no effect on your ranking and doesn't ensure your site being indexed.
jhnstcks
If you dont tell the search engines that your site is there, how are they supposed to know where to look? You need to at least place a link to your site somewhere that google or yahoo spiders visit often, so they pick up your site and visit it.If you have a sitemap and have a sitemap entry in your robot.txt file then the spiders will come back and start indexing your site regularly. My Giftorium site was indexed by Google and Yahoo before I even finished it because I had linked to it in signatures and in forum posts on various boards. waffen
Thanks for the hint, the sitemap is a good idea, i've submitted one to google. I found a sitemap.xml in modules\gsitemap\ but it's not updated automatically.Anyways, spiders are supposed to index my site even if there's no sitemap available. I've checked the website with Google Webmaster Tools for errors but it didn't return any. So i'll just give it another few weeks.
